Hobonichi Notebook Cover Cousin [A5 Size] Tomitaro Makino / Koushinso New Description Condition: New A simply designed notebook cover with a botanical illustration of «Kousinsou» drawn by botanist Dr. Tomitaro Makino in 1901 is now available in a new cousin size. You can enjoy the charm of Dr. Makino’s botanical illustrations in a large size. The watercolor depiction of Kousinsou is a perennial carnivorous plant that grows on damp rocks in the mountains of northern Kanto. It was named after its discovery on Mount Koshin in Tochigi Prefecture. This botanical illustration, drawn on June 30, 1901, more than 120 years ago, delicately depicts a pale purple flower growing sideways and a flower stalk that stretches out and curves back. Unusually for Dr. Makino’s botanical illustrations, the background is painted black. For the cousin size cover, a pretty blooming Kousinsou is printed by inkjet on off-white cotton. Making the most of the atmosphere of Dr. Makino’s botanical illustrations, the bookmark has a matte texture right up to the edge of the paper. The slim bookmark is divided into two colors, a light purple and a light green, which are reminiscent of the flowers and stems of the Chinese lantern plant. The end of the bookmark is cut at an angle. When you open the pocket on the back, you will find a hidden message in English, a translation of Dr. Makino’s words. There isn’t any grass without a name. -Tomitaro Makino «In our country, there is not a single plant that has no name.» These are the words of the plant-loving doctor. There is no pocket inside the cover, making the Hobonichi Techo more compact to carry. There is a pen hook that holds the pen clip. And at the bottom inside the cover, the scientific name of the Chinese lantern plant, «Pinguicula ramosa,» is written. We also have «Hobonichi writing pads» for cousin size that use botanical illustrations drawn by Dr. Tomitaro Makino. This is an A5-sized writing pad with a botanical illustration of «cricket orchid» printed on it.
