This underrated time piece has been recently fully inspected by a master horologist with no issues to report in superb running order with all register’s and pushers performing perfectly. Ready to enjoy for many years to come! Steve McQueen was known to wear a Heuer in the 1971 film, Le Mans. In fact, McQueen's Heuer Monaco watch was auctioned off in 2020 and sold for a record $2.2 million, making it the most expensive Heuer ever sold. Of all the chronographs that Heuer has made over the last 158 years, the Temporada is one of the extraordinary references. And of the six versions of the Temporada, the Reference 733.809 is the most undervalued! Consistent with Heuer’s theme of naming its chronographs after racing venues or events, the Temporada got its name from the races held in Argentina, during Formula One’s off-season. These races were held in the 1960’s through to the 70’s. Introduced in 1972, the Temporada was entirely different from the other chronographs offered by Heuer at that time. Most of these differences arose from Heuer’s objective of producing chronographs that would be unlike the Autavias, Carreras and Monacos that stood at the center of Heuer’s line-up. The defining feature of the Temporada is its fiberglass case, which utilizes monocoque construction, the body of the case essentially being a cup that holds the movement. So rather than accessing the movement by removing the case-back, you get to it by removing the acrylic crystal and then removing the movement through the front of the watch. Temporadas are powered by the robust high grade Valjoux 7733 movement. Dimensions are 42 millimeters across the dial, and 41 millimeters from lug to lug. The Temporada was first shown in Heuer’s 1972 catalog. For a while the Temporadas were forgotten or ignored by collectors until recently, there has been more interest in these watches and now is the best time to purchase, albeit prices are steadily climbing. Heuer didn't produce their own chronograph movements during the period in which this watch was made, most of their watches are found with Landeron, Venus, or Valjoux movements inside, which were high grade chronograph movements and hold up well by today's standards. Rolex watch company were in a similar situation as the £300,000 plus Rolex Daytona 6263 Paul Newman was powered by a similar movement the ‘Valjoux’. Most underrated and undervalued collectors chronograph. A bargain compared to rivals of the era such as the ‘Daytona Cosmograph’ which are starting in excess of £50K. Albeit a mystery why the comparative ‘Heuers’ are going for a song, clearly sleepers waiting to explode! The Original Dial: Signed Heuer Temporada Swiss. Silvered dial with steel pointed orange lume dipped baton hands, matching orange chronograph stop watch seconds sweep hand. Sub dial at ‘9’ with a further registers at ‘3’ o clock. Tachymeter to the outer chapter ring – Concave orange lume filled steel baton indexes. The dial is in vintage condition and has small marks and imperfections commensurate with age and everyday wear. Please observe photographs. The Original Case/Bezel: Steel case measuring 42mm width x 13mm depth with out crown. Case is in solid condition for the age – Has surface scratches associated with stainless steel commensurate with everyday wear and age. Lugs are in good condition for age. Steel serrated edge bezel has scratches – Please observe photographs carefully. The Original Case Back Cover Inner: Signed Heuer Swiss. Case cover is in good overall condition. The Original Case Back Cover Outer: Outer case back is fibre glass and has a matt black finish, embossed with ‘Shock resistant Swiss Made 733809 Antimagnetic’. Cover fits flush without any issues. Has surface scratches associated with fibre glass composites commensurate with age and wear. In solid condition with no visible cracks and plenty of depth. The Original Crystal: Semi dome Perspex crystal is in good condition. The Original Crown/Winder/Pushers: Tooth crown, unsigned as it was when manufactured by Heuer, in excellent working order. Pushers are in good functioning order. Signs of general wear. Original Movement: High grade Valjoux 7733 (manual) 17 Jewelled Heuer Leonidas S.A signed movement. This movement featuring complications was used by many high end watch houses of the era including Rolex and Breitling. In excellent condition. Recently benefited from an inspection by a marque specialist watchmaker keeping perfect time with all registers and pushers functioning correctly.
