eBay Greetings. Offered for sale is the original artwork for the June 16, 1963 daily comic strip titled ABBIE AN’ SLATS drawn (and probably written) by Raeburn Van Buren and Al Plastino. While Elliot Caplin (brother of Al Capp) is often credited as the writer of the strip, most strip historians believe that Van Buren wrote and drew the strip in its later years. Description: -Art Type: Original Sunday comic strip artwork. -Medium: Pen and ink over graphite/pencil on art board. -Publisher: United Feature Syndicate, Inc. -Publication Date: 6-16-1963 as per hand written date and copyright indicia. -Dimensions: Approximately 23.5″ wide by 17″ tall (board dimensions; image slightly smaller) -Signed: No. -Description: This is the original artwork for the June 16, 1963 Sunday comic strip Abbie An’ Slats, drawn (and probably written) by Raeburn Van Buren (1891-1987) with inking probably by Al Plastino. This daily features Becky and Slats watching Bathless Groggins (as Tom Sawyer) on television. The story line has to be with Bathless drinking an experimental de-aging formula and subsequently being chosen as a six year old «Tom Sawyer». Following a sip from a bottle of spirits, he reverts to his true age. A nicely rendered strip by a master of the form. The Plastino inking credit is based upon the pencil note to «Al» in the bottom margin (the notes are fascinating) and information derived from Holtz’s «American Newspaper Comics» and Eddy Zeno’s «Al Plastino: Last Superman Standing.» ES Condition: The art is in excellent overall condition. Minor age/handling wear. Tack holes to board (a couple are in the image area). Title information is original stat. Pencil notes (presumably by Mr. Van Buren) in bottom margin. Pencil notes to reverse. -Domestic buyer pays $30.00 for USPS priority mail shipping (includes tracking and insurance).
