CAST IRON PINE TREE TETSUBIN TEA KETTLE This listing features a traditional Japanese Tetsubin tea kettle purchased by my mother. It dates to the 1970s when she acquired it in Iwakuni while my father was stationed there. It is probably older. She displayed it in her collection only and never used it. It measures 2 inches tall with handle down (handle raised is 2 1/2 inches tall total), 4 1/4 inches in diameter, and is in absolutely beautiful condition — very clean. It is made of black cast iron with a traditional pine tree branch with cones on the lid. The body has both a raised dot pattern and a hammered pattern that adds textural interest. There is an impressed maker’s mark on the base that is illegible to my eye. It includes a stainless steel mesh infuser to keep bits of tea leaves out of the water.
